REMINDER: July 1, 2019 Indiana Opioid Education Requirements for Two (2) CME's Completion
Just a friendly reminder if you have not had the chance to download the new opioid app from the ISMA, piloted with IU Health, with free CME opportunities for new Opioid education law.
Beginning July 1, 2019, each physician, osteopathic physician, or advanced provider renewing their controlled substances registration will need to have completed two (2) hours of continuing education in the topic of opioid prescribing and opioid abuse. Licensees will not need to submit certificates of completion. Please see both links below. One is in regards to the new requirements and the other is a short demonstration on the resources IU Health is offering.

National Institute of Health (NIH) Opioid Education & Resources
In April 2018, NIH launched the HEAL (Helping to End Addiction Long-termSM) Initiative, an aggressive, trans-agency effort to speed scientific solutions to stem the national opioid public health crisis. This Initiative will build on extensive, well-established NIH research, including basic science of the complex neurological pathways involved in pain and addiction, implementation science to develop and test treatment models, and research to integrate behavioral interventions with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder (OUD). Successes from this research include the development of the nasal form of naloxone, the most commonly used nasal spray for reversing opioid overdose, the development of buprenorphine for the treatment of OUD, and evidence for the use of nondrug and mind/body techniques such as yoga, tai chi, acupuncture, and mindfulness meditation to help patients control and manage pain. Surviving Sepsis Campaign: Cerner ED Sepsis PowerPlan Changes
Please review the below link for education on how to use the NEW ED SEPSIS Power Plan effective Tuesday May 21st. The IU Health ED Clinical Council approved an ED Sepsis multiphase power plan to replace the current single phase ED Severe Sepsis/ Septic Shock power plan and the content was updated to reflect current recommendations.

Ending the HIV Epidemic and Indiana
According to HIV.gov, Marion County Indiana is one of 48 counties across the United States that have a substantial rural HIV burden. In the State of the Union Address on February 5, 2019, President Donald J. Trump announced his Administration’s goal to end the HIV epidemic in the United States within 10 years. To achieve this goal and address the ongoing public health crisis of HIV, the proposed Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America will leverage the powerful data and tools now available to reduce new HIV infections in the United States by 75 percent in five years and by 90 percent by 2030. The Mothers and Babies First Project
The Mothers and Babies First Project kicked on in January 2017 with one mission: to improve care for women and newborns, so that more babies can spend more precious time in their mothers’ arms.
